Dewsbury A.S.C. Club Gala Reports season 2016/17

First report for 2016/17 Championships

Affilfiated to S.S.A and A.S.A.N.E.E.R

Gala Nunber 1 Saturday 24 Septemmber 2016 at SHIPLEY POOL

Our opening gala for the season was at Shipley for the Bradford and District Gala. This was one unfamiliar venue and gala structure to all of our swimmers.

But the team soon got into their stride.
Kita Wren started our campaign off in a very strong straight final in th 14 yrs 50m backstroke. Mackenzie Hall showed some great determination in the individual medley
and getting through to the final. Our two team Captains showed the way with two very outstanding swims Tom McGee 50m Breaststroke and Beth Hines 50m Butterfly, both straight finals.
Beth picking up a Bronze.Tia Clarke put in a great swim in the 11yrs Butterfly 50m heat. Unfortunately the second heat was very strong.Harry Haste and Sam McLarnon put two great shifts in, getting them through to the final in thier 50m freestyle.

This was Sam's first gala for Dewsbury after joining only 3 weeks ago. Both lads had a tremendous final. Then the Coaches stepped up to show the younger swimmers that they
could still swim. Both James Meehan and Rob Haigh cruised to the final of the 50m freestyle only to go up against some very strong competition. James did manage to add to his medal collection with a Bronze.

Katelyn Haigh was not put off when she stood up against some very tall swimmers in the open age 50m Backstroke gritted her teeth and put in a giant performance.
The man of steel Luke Haste had a inspirational 50m Breaststroke straight final. Luke had broken the ball in his shoulder earlier this year, and to see him come back and swim a stroke
that heavily involves shoulders is amazing.
Tom McGee put another great swim in the 15yrs and over Fly heats and Final.

Then came two very experienced swimmers that have recently joined back up with the club. Laura and Nicole Bowler were seperated in the heats but were reunited in the
final with Laura winning a silver medal.

Daisy McGee and Wiktoria Prusko put two great swims in with Wiktoria getting through to the final and Daisy just missing out leaving her seventh.Mackenzie now confident after
his individual medley had another great swim in his straight final of 13yrs 50m Free.

The Club Captains were up again both in 50m freestyle events. Tom just missed out on the final and Beth after getting into the the final just missed out on a medal.
These two really stepped up to the mark last night. One of the highlights of the night was the performance that Tia Clarke gave in the individual medley.
Tia threw everything at this event an it paid off. Just missing out on the final (reserve). Three swimmers entered the men's open backstroke against some very strong competitors.
Rob and James managed to get through to the Final. This was probably the strongest battle ever with Rob managing to secure a bronze medal.

Seven swimmers entered the final event from our youngest swimmer to our oldest and most experienced swimmers and they all put their heart and souls into it. Beth Hines just missed out
on the final, Laura and Nicole making it through. Laura s experience showed from her dive keeping just in front the pack upto her turn, then opened the lead to secure the
Pudsey S.C. Trophy. This was a new experience for most of our swimmers as the pool was a shallow start which meant most of our swimmers had to start in the water.
We will organise a shallow dive course to prepare our swimmers for future events. Overall another very successful event. Well done to everyone involved.
